Ottawa 5o5 fleet 4 held their 2nd annual Espoir Camp July 14-15th. The objective of the camp is to introduce talented young sailors that under the age of 25 to the 5o5 . The Espoir Camp has been used successfully by the French 505 Class  for many years now to bring younger sailors into the class.

On Day 1, we had 5 teams from local clubs (Nepean, Hudson and Aylmer) doing drills and practice races in marginal trapezing conditions. The focus was on getting familiar with the boat and the spinnaker system in particular. Day 2 of the Camp was scheduled to be a mini-regatta. Attempts to start a race were unsuccessful due to light winds. The u25 sailors still had a great time and learned lots during an on land session lead by coaches Shona Moss and Marie Gendron who is our current Class Association President.

The 2018 camp was a success! In total, 13 sailors participated over the two days 8 of them being brand new to the class. A huge thanks to the Fleet 4 boat owners who loaned their boats for the weekend and to coaches Marie and Shona!
