A Message from the President

First a big thank you to Paul Place, our new Webmaster. Paul has been keeping our website and Facebook page up to date. If you have not been on the website for a while, I encourage you to have a look www.505.ca. You will find great videos and articles on how to improve your 505 sailing. It’s a good way to get back on track. The website was down for a while over the winter and spring but with the help of Dave Adams, former Webmaster, it is up and running again.

The Canadians are out West this summer at Kitsilano Yacht Club, July 7-8. I heard that there may be boats for charter for Eastern teams: contact Charles Hansen early if you are interested. The big event this year in Eastern Canada will be the Eastern Canadians, September 22-23 in Kingston. The regatta will be run as part of CORK Fall Regatta, it will be a good opportunity to show case the 505 to Youth and Olympic class sailors.

For a second year, Fleet 4 in Ottawa will organize a U25 Espoir camp/regatta. Experienced U25 sailors/instructors/coaches are invited. The event will take place early in July with the hope that the participants can then be used as spare (or regular) crew or skippers for the weekly evening races. It is important that our boats do not sit in the yard not being used. If your crew or skipper (or both) is not available to race contact an Espoir.

Jeff Boyd and I are looking into the possibility of organizing a training camp in Kingston on the July 28-29 weekend (date to be confirmed soon). With the 2018 Eastern and the 2019 NA being hosted in Kingston, as well as Kingston’s famous breeze, we expect to attract several US and CAN teams. If you are interested please contact me.

Other news: Michele Loewen (past member of the Manitoba Sailing Team) and Martin Tenhove (Olympian) purchased 505s. Michele will be sailing in Ottawa and Martin in Kingston. Adam and Renka Gesing are moving to Kingston in June. The 505 Kingston and Ottawa Fleets are growing.

Last words, the 2019 North American Championships will be hosted in Kingston on August 7-11. Jeff Boyd is the regatta chairman. Jeff will need several volunteers to pull off this show. If you can help, contact Jeff or myself. In particular, sponsorship is a “department” Jeff has asked for help with. If you are travelling to other 505 events this year, please make an effort to promote the 2019 505 North American Championships scheduled for August 7-11 in Kingston Ontario.

Oh yes, pay your membership asap 😊
